1.1Background of the Study

The emergence of information and communication technology today has affected almost all the sphere of life were one innovation replace the other within a twinkle of an eye according to Power, D. J. (2002). Today, many organizations are experiencing technological advancement and change in the mode of in which they carry out their business processes. With this advancement, it is becoming essential to find an easier and more effective system to help an organization improve its productivity and service delivery. The importance of   technological  change   in  the  health  sector  is  a  widely  discussed topic in the economic literature  of Erikson  B.K, (2006). Among these changes is the introduction of Electronically patient Report (EPR) which can promote higher quality, lower costs, and increased patient and clinician and pharmaceutical management satisfactions.

Management Information System (MIS) is an organized, automated, and diverse

Information system that gathers, stores, processes, and distributes data associated with different departments of an organization. This data is processed in various forms, such as graphs, diagrams, charts, and reports to generate accurate, relevant and valuable information for the management. This information is further communicated to the various departments to be used for decision-making and business management such as the medical stores generally known as pharmacy. Raymond, (1990),

Pharmacy is the health profession that links the health sciences with the chemical sciences and it is charged with ensuring the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs and dispensation. The word pharmacy is derived from the Greek word pharmakon, meaning "drug" or "medicine” John K.  Borchardt, (2007).

Medical store management system is a management system that is designed to improve accuracy, improve inventory management, cost, medical safety and efficiency in the pharmaceutical store management O’Brien, (2011). It also involves manual entry upon arrival of new batches of drugs and upon drug movement out of the store for a certain period. At present, manual system is being utilized in the medical store (pharmacy). It requires the pharmacist to manually monitor each drug that is available in the pharmacy. This usually leads to mistakes as the workload of the pharmacist increases. The absence of a well established information system to serve the pharmacy stores has led to so many inconveniences such lost of drug inventory and reports.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Medical store management such as the pharmacy has kept paper record in filing cabinets (manual system). Managing a very large pharmacy with records on papers will be tedious and difficult to keep track of inventories with regards to the drugs in the store, expiry date, quantity of drugs available based on the categories and their functions Erikson  B.K, (2006).  .

The growing size of the general populace and technology has prompt the need for quality service within the medical stores such as the pharmacy, were a very large customer base is seen. These customers tend to visit the pharmacy for services mostly when they close from work. At this period, the number of customers that patronize the pharmacy is on the increase, thereby making the workload of the pharmacists much more tedious. This case makes it difficult for the pharmacist to attend to customers in a short period. Meanwhile the pharmacist has to ensure satisfaction in services to keep their customers. The factors mentioned above, results in delay of the services being rendered to the customers, thereby slowing down sales and risk losing valuable customers in the long run.

Therefore to solve this kind of problems the urgent  need is to develop an online medical  management system that will prove beneficial for the pharmacy by using this software we can generate bill, maintain the stock very well, we can do cost saving and maintain inventory control. This system will help the medical store service providers to handle the incomings and outgoings more smoothly and in a better way of drug dispensation and management.

1.3 Aim and Objectives of the study

The aim of this research project is to design and implement an effective online medical store information management system for SickBay, Pharmacy and Hospital Services.  This research seeks to achieve the following objectives:

i.To improve the existing system of managing medical stores by providing a system that would be accessible over the internet.

ii.To develop a system that will safeguard the medical store records from unauthorized persons by assigning privileges to the user by the DBA (database administrator).

iii.To make job easier for the staff of the pharmacy by developing a system that will yield timely information processing and retrieval system.

iv.To design a system that will manage resources and prevent the sales of expired drugs and also provide prompt response to user requests for data from the data base.

v.To develop the system using an appropriate programming language that
